The 1980s were a crucial period for the women's movement of color in the Netherlands. At a time when feminism was primarily dominated by white, middle-class women, women of color—from diverse backgrounds—began to create their own spaces, as their experiences with racism, sexism, and migration were rarely recognized within the broader women's movement. In 1980, a group of young Surinamese women took the initiative to establish the women's newspaper Ashanti. Between 1980 and 1987, 33 issues were published, all of which are included in this edition. The edition includes an introduction by Sitla Bonoo, one of the founders of Ashanti, about the history of Ashanti.

The collection includes an introduction, a list of all contributors, an overview of the Ashanti network, an index of articles by theme, and all issues of the seven volumes. The 600-page volume will be launched on March 8th, International Women's Day, at the Amare Theatre in The Hague. The book costs €40.
